Doctors’ Deputising

The Doctors’ Deputising Service is the original backbone of The Message Centre, the medical paging service which has been in continuous operation since 1973. Doctors give out the Deputising number, 8508 9000, a single easy-to-remember number which connects callers straight through to the service.

Paging calls are recorded then immediately paged to the doctor in question. Our operators pride themselves on maintaining a working knowledge of Victoria’s hospitals and nursing procedures, particularly those relevant to the doctors on our list.

We take a different approach to paging. Clients of the Deputising list can leave quite detailed instructions, so that their communications follow them through the week – e.g., page Mon-Wed, refer to these rooms on Thursday, relay to mobile at this hospital on Friday, call home on weekends. During a doctor’s precious times off-call, we will ensure a doctor is not disturbed, referring callers to a specified covering doctor or to specified alternatives.
